Shelby Early Access is Open on Aptos Testnet

In 2025 , Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto announced Shelby, a new data infrastructure protocol built on Aptos. Today, Shelby opens Early Access on Aptos testnet.

What started as a web3 data primitive is now verifiable global object storage for AI. Organizations write data to a single global address and read it from any region, with cryptographic verification on every request and egress pricing expected to beat cloud providers by roughly 70%. The audience has expanded from crypto-native builders to AI and infrastructure teams working at enterprise scale.

What's live today

Shelby Early Access is running on Aptos and DoubleZero testnet environments. Developers can start integrating today with cross-stack SDKs for React, Ethereum, Solana, and S3-compatible environments, the Shelby Media Kit for GenAI content distribution and delivery, AI agent tooling via the Shelby MCP Server and Shelby Skills, and full documentation at docs.shelby.xyz. Full production is expected later in 2026.

What Shelby solves

The AI industry is deploying trillions in infrastructure over the next several years, but the data layer underneath most of that spending hasn't caught up. AI workloads are read-heavy and globally distributed by nature. Traditional cloud storage charges a premium every time data crosses a regional boundary, and most providers offer no native mechanism to verify what data was served, under what rights, or whether consent was honored.

That gap creates real friction. Teams overpay to move data to where compute lives. Proprietary and consented datasets stay locked up because there's no infrastructure-level way to prove compliance. The storage layer most organizations rely on was designed for a different era of workloads.

Shelby was built to close that gap. Data is globally accessible without replication. Rights and access policies are integrated with the storage layer and enforced on-chain. Verification happens at the point of delivery, not in an audit trail reconstructed after the fact.

What Aptos provides

Aptos gives Shelby a globally consistent control plane. Sub-50ms block times. 99.99% uptime since mainnet launch. Data ownership, provenance, and access rights recorded and enforced on-chain, meaning any party can verify them independently rather than trusting a single provider's internal systems.

For every data object on Shelby, Aptos maintains a tamper-proof record of state. Access policies are enforced at the protocol level. The coordination layer is globally available without depending on any one operator. This is the category of workload the network was designed to support: high-throughput, globally distributed, and dependent on verifiability as a baseline requirement.

What this means for the Aptos ecosystem

Shelby brings a new category of demand to the network. The workloads it supports, AI training pipelines, generative media distribution, verifiable analytics, agentic data exchange, are high-volume by nature. Each one requires on-chain coordination and verification at a scale that exercises what Aptos does best.

As Shelby moves from testnet to production and more teams build on the protocol, that usage compounds. More data objects, more verification requests, more sustained demand on the network's coordination infrastructure.
